N a 1031 exchange, a trustee is an individual or entity that holds legal title to a property on behalf of the trust’s beneficiaries. A trustee has the legal authority to manage, sell, and transfer the property on behalf of the trust. In a 1031 exchange, the trustee can act as the titleholder, allowing the property to be transferred to the trust and then exchanged for another property of like-kind.
